As such, it creates a 'quiet' environment for listening to the radio transmissions that are coming from elsewhere Asia, Europe, South America, etc.. Again, it will transmit UHF just fine, but not VHF. It's not a microphone problem. have you tried it on simplex? that might help figure out if its a split or PL tone issue. I'd get a copy of chirp with a programming cable. It is possible within Chirp to disable VHF or UHF bands individually. We use the same radios at work and I disabled the UHF band so people couldn't transmit on those.
